The Get Involved Awards: Results!

It was the 1st Get Involved Awards on Friday evening, hosted by our very own Student Union Activities officer Jake Rodgers. We have over 22000 student and 624 registered committee members who help to smoothly run the outside lives of the students. Sometimes we can forget to say thank you to all those working hard to make a student’s life exciting and fulfilling.  

This was the main reason for this event, to say a big massive Thank You to everyone from sports clubs, societies, academic clubs, and even volunteering.  

1) The first award was the event or trip of the year award for societies, and the Nominees were the Drama Society for their amazing Alice and Wonderland Tea Party and the Non-League society Away Day with AFC EMLEY.  

And drum roll the winner was: The Non-League society  

2) The next award for best event or trip for a sports club, and the Nominees are Ultimate Frisbee club for there Double D and there 106 hours frisbee catching event, and Hussi for the Rise Festival.  

Ultimate Frisbee won this one.

3) The award for the best event or trip for Academic society’s and the Nominees are as followed, Bioscience Society for their VIVIT Live Autopsy also Architecture for their ADA Christmas Party.  

The winner was Architecture society for there ADA Christmas Party   

The next category was the INCLUSIVE AWARD.  

1. The Nominees for societies in the inclusive award our: The Drama Society and LGBTQ+. The winner was LGBTQ+ 

2. The Nominees the inclusive award for sports clubs were: Archery club and the Ultimate Frisbee, and drum roll for the winner Archery Club 

3. For the academic society award for inclusive award, the Nominees are Childhood studies and English and creative writing society. The winner was the well-deserved Childhood studies group.

 The next category is Athlete of the year. 

The Nominees for male athlete of the year were:

  • Alex Bamford Ultimate Frisbee  
  • Ben Sweet – American Football Club  
  • Sufyaan Rafi – Rugby League  

And the winner is – Sufyaan Rafi for Rugby League  

 The Nominees for female athlete of the year were: 

  • Ayesha Clark- Archery Club  
  • Isabella Barber-Lowell -Ultimate Frisbee  
  • Ngaire Patu – women’s rugby union and American football  

And the winner is- Ngaire Patu for both women’s Rugby Union and American Football  

The final category for this amazing awards night is personality of the year.  

1) The Nominees for societies personality award were: 

  • Damianos Thoma – 3D Printing  
  • Tristan Smith – LGBTQ+ society  
  • Srosh Khan – Radio Hud  
  • Alannah Mirkin -Drama Society  
  • Lucy Clark – Feminist Society  

And the winner for the societies personality of the year is – Damianos Thoma with 3D Printing. 

 2) The Nominees for personality of the year for a sports club were: 

  • Sam Folley – Ultimate Frisbee  
  • Bill Rogerson – Badminton Club 
  • Gemma Devlin – Cheerleading club  
  • Lee Wrigglesworth – American football club  
  • Jordan Goodchild – Women’s Rugby Union 

And the winner was – Bill Rogerson with the Badminton club  

3) The Nominees for academic personality of the year were as followed: 

  • Cara Caradona – Marketing society  
  • Sam Tate – Bio-Science society  
  • Amelia Norris – Childhood studies  
  • Kiran Firdos – Business society  

And the winner for this award is Cara Caradona for the Marketing society  

Final words:  

This night was 100% one to remember, filled with laughs and fun. A huge congratulations to all the winners but also to those who were nominated, you are doing an amazing job 

Lets also give a massive thank you to Jake Rodgers and all the people involved in making the event possible. Keep up the good work and we all look forward to next years event and many more to come.
