This weekend (7th – 9th March) sees the eighth annual British Wildlife Festival take over the Brudenell Social Club in Leeds.
Not, as the name would suggest, a festival celebrating all that’s great about our nation’s flora and fauna, British Wildlife is actually a cutting edge music fest, hosting some of the best up-and-coming bands to come out of Leeds and beyond. Over three days, one of the best (if not THE best) independent venues in Leeds will see a revolving line-up of exciting live talent.
Headliners come in the form of Electric Electric on the Friday, Lady Scraper on the Saturday, and Dark Bells on Sunday. Aside from the headliners, names like Ice, Sea, Dead People, Female Smell, Castrovalva, Gum Takes Tooth, and Cowtown are the first to immediately jump from the stacked running order.
The full line-up is as follows:
Friday 7th March 2014
HILARY & THE HATE CRIMES
ICE, SEA, DEAD PEOPLE
P FOR PERSIA
Saturday 8th March 2014
AEROPLANE FLIES HIGH
GUM TAKES TOOTH
I’M BEING GOOD
MATTHEW BOURNE (THE BOURNE SYNTHESIZER SHOW)
MAYORS OF MIYAZAKI
SUPER FAST GIRLIE SHOW
TWO TRICK HORSE
Sunday 9th March 2014
ALPHA MALE TEA PARTY
THE WITCH HUNT
We only caught word of the line-up just this week, so unfortunately were unable to include British Wildlife in our student friendly alternative festival guide in this month’s issue of the magazine (available on campus now!), but needless to say we would’ve done had we known about it earlier. In that article we mention that the one of the hidden facets of the Brudenell’s exuberant personality is its ability to host a mean all-dayer, and this – along with Gold Sounds coming up at the end of May – are but two of this year’s choice cuts. On the Saturday, bands will be staggered across the Brudenell’s two stage, so you need never not be watching a live band. And you can grab a pint as you fly through between rooms!
British Wildlife probably sum it up best with this little list of things to expect taken from their website:
