Live music is one of those things that, no matter what you are into (or what you’re not into) you can immerse yourself in the live experience and share ‘that moment’ with the crowd around you. There’s just something about being surrounded by sweaty people, booze and great music that is strangely enticing and also comforting.
I am a big music lover, but even people who aren’t ‘that into’ music, when placed in a crowd of people sharing a moment together at a gig, can make the most of hanging out and having a great time. One thing is for sure – HudLive is set to give the music lover and the anti-music man an event to remember.
Huddersfield SU’s Freshers’ week line-up looks ace, to say the least. Jam-packed with a host of exciting events, there is something for everyone at Freshers’ with nights out like HudCrawl (the official Freshers’ Bar Crawl) and HudComedy at the Lawrence Batley Theatre, as well as a host of daytime events like the Vintage Fair and Campus Tea Party.
One event that, as a music lover, I’m particularly looking forward to is HudLive.
Happening at Storthes Hall, it’s been announced that Sigma will be the headliners for the massive event. Famous with hits such as, Changing ft. Paloma Faith, and Nobody To Love, Sigma have got me – and most other Freshers’ – psyched for the whole event. One fellow fresher said that having seen Sigma once already, they were excited to see them again – especially in the company of all the new Hud-bloods. Others were eager to see such a good line-up for the evening, and are saving Friday 25th September as a ‘must-go’ date in their Freshers’ diaries.
Other HudLive acts on the night include MistaJam, a DJ who looks set to get us all moving to some great mixes. MistaJam is a pioneer in the DJ business, so I am super excited to see what he brings to the festival experience.
Another great talent performing at HudLive this year is the awesome band, The Carnabys. With ace tunes such as Is That My Body and their latest track Where I’d Rather Be, their set looks to be full of energy and is bound to get everyone dancing to their catchy riffs and singing along with their clever wordplay.
Last but not least on the music front, Huddersfield duo LewRey look set to give a cracking show for the second year in a row, with their soulful vocals and pop music combination. These guys are definitely ones not to miss and will be sure to give us all a refreshing and gripping performance.
As great as HudLive is already squaring up to be, there are plenty of other great events planned for Freshers’ that definitely shouldn’t be overlooked. Fancy a laugh? Share a giggle with British comedian Joe Lycett, whose unique brand of comedy has appeared on shows such as Live At The Apollo and 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown, and he’s bound to create an abundance of laughter and deliver a performance full of hilarity.
Overall, Freshers’ week looks set to be an unforgettable seven days. As a first year student myself, I am looking forward to a week of excellent entertainment in good company.
Freshers’ week is a great way to meet other students and ease the nerves of moving away and starting uni life while meeting new people. There’s so much to look forward to before the course deadlines begin, so make sure to get involved. I definitely will be!
Don’t forget to get your Fresher’s wristbands from the Huddersfield Students’ Union website http://freshers.huddersfield.su/tickets and have a week to remember!
