The Huddersfield Hawks American Football Club don’t do things by halves. For their latest charity fundraising effort they set themselves the target of lifting over 1 million kg in one day. Club media exec Dean Scicluna explains why: “Every October the NFL has a campaign to raise money for breast cancer research. As a club we wanted to get on board with this. We wanted to give to the charity that gives the most to breast cancer research, which is Cancer Research UK.”
Over 40 players joined in with the lift, which took place at Body Transformation Gym (one of the club’s sponsors) on Wednesday 23rd October. The target, which seemed unreachable at the start of the day, was finally achieved at 5pm. Club Chairman declared the first ever Hawks Lift for Life a success: “I couldn’t be more proud of the squad. Everyone played their part to make sure we reached our target.”
Donations are being split 50/50 between Breast Cancer awareness and transport to the Hawks’ training camp. You can still add to their total at by visiting their webpage or following them on social media.
